September Self Care
Cause #livelaughlove just ain’t cutting it.
September always feels like the beginning of the year thanks to all the kids and teachers heading back to school. 🍎 Now is the perfect time to try something new for yourself! Self care is important, whether that means listening to your favorite podcast, going on a hike, cooking a delicious meal or catching up with friends. Here are five ways I like to unwind, relax and reconnect with myself.
“Ask your Guides” by Sonia Choquette is one of my favorite books right now. I love how she breaks down what a spirit guide is and even includes various exercises to help you connect with yours. It might feel a bit silly at first, but once you tap into this other world, you truly can feel the support system built within you (as well as surrounding you). We are all made up of energy - from the waves of the ocean to our constant heartbeat - and Sonja teaches you how to recognize this. It forces you to sit down, take a minute and really listen to what you need. What can you do for hours that feels like minutes? What feeds your soul? What makes you smile immediately? DO MORE OF THESE THINGS and see how your life can change. Start small and one day you may see a big change.
Sometimes you just want to scream “I’VE HAD IT!” Well, that’s where best friends (and former Bravolebrities) Jennifer Welch and Angie “Pumps” Sullivan come in. Download their hilarious podcast, appropriately titled “I’ve Had It!”, and listen to other people bitch about bitching. You may recognize this interior designer and divorce attorney duo from their short-lived Bravo reality series “Sweet Home Oklahoma.” These two besties hilariously complain about everyday grievances while notable guests give their two cents. Listeners can also get in on the action by leaving a voice memo on their IG page here or grabbing tickets to their live “Hot Shit Tour!”
All hail the Body Hero Collection from Glossier! Take a few extra minutes in the shower (you deserve it!) and lather up with this seriously luxe line up of body oils and creams. The scent of orange blossom will calm your senses while your body hydrates thanks to natural ingredients like grapeseed oil, desert plant extracts and bamboo powder. Spritz on some body mist while drying off and your skin will feel like a baby’s bottom. Start exfoliating now before the cold weather arrives!
I’ve never been a big YouTube follower. However, this all changed after discovering Jolly, the hilarious series hosted and produced by best friends Josh Carrott and Ollie Kendal. I was transfixed over 4th of July weekend with these two Brits who review everything from Korean Chicken Feet (along with Ollie’s hot priest brother-in-law) to the best spicy food remedies. I’ve completely fallen in love with Ollie’s creativity - his spontaneous claymation Fiverr ads as well as when he wrote and published Josh’s autobiography without him knowing it are pure nuggets of genius. Josh plays the straight man perfectly with his good looks and charm (his other popular channel called Korean Englishman boasts over five million subscribers) while ADHD-esque Ollie adoringly overshares to every guest (even King Charles himself). Warning - watching this channel may inspire you to spend money on everything from Korean snacks to Jolly merch. Other favorite episodes include their trips to Italy with Lord Z as well as their taste tests through Texas. Today, I can happily admit that I’m a full fledged Jollybean!
Sometimes adding something new to your space can calm the mind and soul. My obsession with Studio McGee was in full effect last year when I unexpectedly moved across the country but there was one problem: I couldn’t afford their hefty price tag. Luckily, Target teamed up with founder & designer Shea to create Threshold designed with Studio McGee. I was able to find stylish apartment staples (bed, bedding, bench, mirrors, dining set, artwork and lamps) for a fraction of the price! After watching the Netflix series Dream Home Makeover, I immediately went to every Target in the area (and online) to find the perfect pieces. Known for their classic design and neutral color palette, Studio McGee makes it easy to mix and match with items you already have at home. So spruce up that empty corner of the room with a faux Ficus Tree or update your bedding with a Woodblock Print Floral Quilt. One small change can really make a big impact on your home.
